Shoulder Trauma
Clavicular Fracture
Clavicle fractures, especially in the midshaft, are common in contact sports and falls. Most are treated conservatively with a sling and early mobilization if minimally displaced. However, significantly displaced or comminuted fractures, especially in young or active patients, may benefit from surgical fixation (usually with plates and screws) to reduce non-union and restore shoulder strength. Distal clavicle fractures (near the AC joint) may be unstable and require surgical intervention. Neurovascular injury is rare but should be ruled out. Recovery includes gradual return to activity over 6β12 weeks with physiotherapy.
